Samsung Phone Catches Fire On India Flight

September 23, 2016

A Samsung Note 2 smartphone caught fire in an overhead luggage bin on an IndiGo flight on Friday.

The fire happened on a Singapore to Chennai flight just before 8 on Friday morning. Cabin crew used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

India’s civil aviation authority said there was no damage to the aircraft or injuries to passengers or crew.

It wasn’t clear whether the phone was switched off when it caught fire.

The flight landed normally in Chennai and passengers disembarked safely.

India’s DGCA said the phone will be examined and Samsung summoned next week.
