Protest Halts London City Airport Flights

September 6, 2016

Flights at London City airport were disrupted on Tuesday morning as protesters swam across the dock and accessed the runway.

London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement that they’d been called to the airport at 5:40 on Tuesday morning.

“There are currently nine protestors on the runway at the airport. They have erected a tripod and have locked themselves together,” police said. “No arrests have been made at this stage.”

The Black Lives Matter group claimed responsibility for the protest.

The airport said on Twitter that “we’re currently experiencing disruption to all flights due to protestors at the airport. Police are currently on the scene.”

Inbound flights were being diverted to other airports.
