Power Outage Halts Miami-Area Flights

August 25, 2016

A power outage at a regional ATC control room caused a temporary halt to flights into Miami and other area airports on Thursday.

“Ground stop for flights into MIA, FLL, and South FL airports due to a power problem”, the FAA said on their Twitter feed.

As a result of the outage, the area’s Terminal Radar Approach Control switched to a backup power generator and facilities were restored after about five minutes.

Flight operations returned to normal after about 90 minutes.

The reason for the outage was not known but was being investigated, the FAA said.
