Passenger Attempts To Open Door On Boston-Bound Flight

November 17, 2015

An apparently intoxicated female passenger attempted to open an exit door on a Boston-bound British Airways flight on Tuesday, prompting people on the plane to restrain her, the Massachusetts State Police said.

There was no indication of any terrorism link in the incident, state police spokesman David Procopio said. Troopers took the woman, who is about 30 years old, into custody after the plane landed at Boston's Logan Airport, authorities said.

"The investigation into this incident indicates this was a case of unruly behaviour, with no known connection to terrorism at this point," said Procopio, who did not identify the woman.

Procopio said the woman was apparently intoxicated and will likely face a criminal charge of interfering with a flight crew. British Airways said the crew had asked police to meet the flight due to an unruly passenger.

An earlier state police report that the woman had attempted to open the cockpit door was inaccurate, police said.

The FBI said it was responding to the incident.
