Monarch ‘Operating Normally’ Despite Speculation

September 26, 2016

UK airline Monarch has denied speculation it is in trouble and said it was operating normally.

Monarch said in a statement it was “trading well”, but it was a “difficult period for the holiday industry due to terrorist incidents, Brexit and the resulting devaluation of sterling”.

It said it expects to announce “significant” investment in the coming days.

Monarch was reassuring passengers on Monday via Twitter that “all flights are operating as normal”, in response to social media questions over its financial health.

Based at Luton Airport, north of London, Monarch is 90 percent owned by UK investment company Greybull Capital. The remaining 10 percent is owned by the group’s pension fund.
