Lufthansa, Pilot Union Agree To Mediation

December 16, 2016

Lufthansa and the pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit have agreed to mediation in an attempt to resolve a dispute over a new contract.

The mediation process will be completed by the end of January, Lufthansa said.

“We have had some intense talks over the past months and have now succeeded in agreeing on arbitration… the negotiating table is the only place where we can find solutions that offer prospects for employees and for the company,” Lufthansa head of HR, Bettina Volkens said.

The union wants a 3.66 percent average pay increase for the last five years. Lufthansa has offered a 4.4 percent increase in two stages and a one-off payment equivalent to 1.8 months salary. VC turned that offer down.
