Jetstar Flight Diverts After Smoke In Cabin

September 23, 2016

An Australian Jetstar flight was forced to divert to Brisbane on Friday after the cabin filled with smoke.

The Jetstar Airbus A320 was on a flight from Sydney to Cairns when it diverted after passengers heard a noise and the cabin started filling with smoke.

ABC Australia reported one passenger as saying “There was a large explosion under my seat… Within seconds smoke came up under my seat under my legs and up into my face… then we lost pressure in the plane."

One engine was shut down and the flight landed safely on the other engine.

“Once they shut off the engine the smoke began to clear,” one of the passenger said after disembarking.

“While it's rare for something like this to happen, our crew are trained to deal with these type of situations and they handled the situation very professionally," Jetstar said.

The passengers continued on to Cairns on another aircraft after a four hour delay.

The airline said engineers were looking into the cause of the engine problem.
