September 5, 2016

Passenger numbers at Dubai International Airport rose to a record high in July, with strong growth from Eastern Europe and Asia.

July’s figure of 7.62 million was up 14 percent on the previous year period. In the seven months to end July, Dubai handled over 48 million passengers in total.

“This summer was the busiest in DXB’s history with daily traffic averaging a quarter of a million passengers across the three terminals,” said Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports.

London, Doha, Mumbai, Kuwait and Bangkok were the most popular destinations served from Dubai.

Freight volume, however, was down 1.2 percent in July to 203,153 tonnes. For the first seven months of 2016, Dubai handled 1,485,177 tonnes of cargo, up 3.2 percent from the same period in 2015.
