Dubai Airport Passenger Numbers Up Again In August

Passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport rose 6.1 percent in August to a new record of 7.7 million.

August’s total beat the previous monthly record set in July.

Total passenger traffic for January to August was up 6.9 percent at 55,850,353.

The airport operator said additional capacity and new services launched by carriers including Emirates and flydubai, boosted traffic leading to the record month.

Eastern Europe was the fastest growing market with a 67.9 percent increase, followed by Asia on 13 percent, and South America on 11.7 percent.

In terms of destination cities, London came top followed by Doha and Kuwait.

Freight movement, however, dropped 3.1 percent to 201,100 tonnes during the month, out of a year-to-date total of 1,686,277 tonnes, a 2.4 percent increase.
