Delta Revenue Down USD$100 Million After Outage

September 2, 2016

Delta Air Lines reported a drop in financial and operating performance for August after a technology outage caused the cancellation of thousands of flights.

Delta said the outage caused the cancellation of 2,300 flights over a three day period, resulting in a revenue drop of about USD$100 million for the month.

Passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) for August was down 9.5 percent compared to the same month a year ago.

“We are grateful to our customers for continuing to rely on Delta,” said chief executive Ed Bastian. “Our recovery effort exemplified the hard work and determination of Delta people worldwide.”

The airline said it continues to see domestic yield weakness on business travel tickets purchased close to the time of travel.
