British Airways Scraps Free Snacks On Short Flights

September 29, 2016

British Airways said it will drop free food and snacks in short-haul economy from January 2017.

The airline said it will provide food from UK retailer Marks & Spencer in a new “premium food range”.

Prices will range from GBP£1 (USD$1.30) for hand cooked crisps up to GBP£4.95 (USD$6.50) for spiced chicken with quinoa and rice salad.

British Airways chief executive Alex Cruz said “We know our customers expect a great experience with British Airways… but when it comes to catering on short-haul flights, they want to choose from a wider range of premium products.”

The new menu will be available on London Heathrow and Gatwick flights from January 11, 2017.

British Airways has been trying to close the price gap to Ryanair and easyJet and this is another step in that process.
