Some Kenya Airways Flights Cancelled As Strike Deadline Looms

October 17, 2016

Kenya Airways cancelled five flights on Sunday, blaming staff shortages as some crew members stayed away from work.

“Some of our outsourced staff including cabin crew have stayed away from work from Friday and we are working with their employer to resolve any issues they may have,” the national carrier said in a statement.

“As per the safety regulations… [a] minimum number of cabin staff per aircraft type is required and on some of our flights we are unable reach these levels.”

Kenya Airways pilots’ union KALPA last week called a strike to start from Tuesday, October 18, but a court on Friday ordered a stop to the planned industrial action.

Reuters on Monday reported a source as saying the strike was "deferred". No further details were available.

KALPA said when they called the strike that they wanted “a comprehensive change of guard” in management at the airline.
