Power Failure Closes Amsterdam Airport

April 30, 2018

A power failure at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport closed the airport for a time early on Sunday morning, causing flight delays and cancellations.

Trains to the airport were stopped and access roads closed for a time, with incoming flights diverted.

“Due to the check-in failure, people are advised to leave the airport. Incoming travellers by road and train will be stopped until further notice: no trains to Schiphol and access roads will be closed,” the airport said on Twitter.

Power was restored shortly after 04:00 (4am) and airlines were able to start processing outgoing passengers as systems came back online.

“Check-in systems in all departure halls are up and running again, which means that passenger flows can start moving,” Schiphol advised.

Operations were back to normal by 16:00 (4pm), but some delays were expected, the airport said.
