Lion Air 737 Overshoots Indonesian Runway

February 18, 2019

A Lion Air Boeing 737 overshot a runway in Borneo on Saturday as it attempted to land in heavy rain.

The 737-800 was operating a Jakarta to Pontianak service when it skidded off the runway in the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan. The airline said 182 passengers and seven crew were onboard the aircraft.

The airport closed for a period after the mid-afternoon incident, but flights were operating again later in the day.

Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee is investigating the accident.
