Flights Cancelled As Typhoon Hits Tokyo

August 22, 2016

Hundreds of flights were cancelled at Tokyo airports on Monday as heavy rain caused by Typhoon Mindulle lashed the area.

Japan Airlines cancelled over 150 domestic flights and All Nippon Airways 100 flights at Haneda airport as rain and high winds buffeted the area.

Narita Airport closed for an hour when air traffic control staff evacuated the control tower as high winds made it unsafe.

JAL advised that there would be some residual delays or cancellations on domestic services for Tuesday. International services are expected to operate a close to normal schedule.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued heavy rain and flood warnings for Tokyo and many provinces across Japan.
