AirAsia X Posts Small Quarterly Profit

AirAsia X announced a second quarter profit on higher revenue as passenger numbers increased.

The Malaysian long-haul low-cost carrier made a net profit of just over MYR1 million ringgit (USD$248,000) for the quarter to end June. In the same period last year the airline made a MYR133 million loss.

Revenue in the quarter was MYR883.2 million ringgit, up from MYR653 million in Q2 2015.

Load factor was up seven percentage points to 75 percent, with passenger traffic (RPK) up 29 percent.

AirAsia X said in a statement that based on forward booking trends, third quarter passenger numbers were encouraging. Forward loads and average fares are also better than last year.
