Air Canada Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Washington

March 26, 2018

An Air Canada flight from Toronto to Washington made an emergency landing at Dulles Airport on Sunday after pilots reported smoke in the cockpit.

The flight, AC 7618, with 63 passengers and four crew on board landed safely at the Virginia airport outside Washington DC just after 6.15pm (18:15). Passengers and crew exited the plane safely onto the tarmac, with no injuries reported.

The Air Canada Embraer E175 operated by Sky Regional left Toronto’s Pearson Airport about 5pm (17:00) and flew for an hour before pilots announced a diversion from the flight’s Washington Reagan National destination to the larger Washington Dulles airport.

A passenger told Canadian broadcaster CBC that some passengers had detected a slight burning smell prior to the announcement of the emergency landing.

US safety authorities will investigate the incident.
