Air Austral Orders Three Airbus A220s
October 14, 2019
Réunion airline Air Austral has signed a firm order with Airbus for three A220 aircraft.
The Indian Ocean island-based airline has opted for the A220-300, the larger member of the short-haul aircraft family. The first delivery is expected towards the end of 2020.
“Air Austral has chosen the A220-300 as part of the renewal of its medium and short-haul fleet… The 132-seat capacity module, which is more flexible, will allow us to increase our frequencies while offering more comfort to our customers and crews,” the airline’s chief executive Marie-Joseph Malé said.
The A220s will replace the carrier’s single ATR 72 and two Boeing 737-800s on regional services.
Air Austral also operates three Boeing 777-300ERs and a pair of 787-8s for long-haul sectors.
