Aeroméxico Pilot Strike Causes Flight Cancellations

November 28, 2017

Aeroméxico cancelled 51 flights on Tuesday as some pilots at the airline’s regional carrier Connect went on strike in protest at a colleague’s dismissal.

A group of pilots, represented by the Mexican Aviator Pilots Union (ASPA), did not report for work after the sacking of a pilot the airline said had “a long history of misconduct.”

According to Aeroméxico the striking pilots ignored a call by the APSA union to avoid affecting passengers.

Passengers booked on the cancelled flights are protected by civil aviation and consumer protection laws, the airline said.

Most of the cancellations were domestic Mexican services, but some regional destinations and flights to Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Orlando were affected.

Aeroméxico said it is working at “maximum capacity to restore the operations as soon as possible.”
