More than a third of Spanish airline Iberia's flights were grounded on Thursday as the carrier's pilots took strike action.

The airline said that it had cancelled 118 flights, or 36 percent of those scheduled on Thursday, in the second day of a pilot strike.

The industrial action is over management plans of the IAG-owned airline to employ pilots for the planned Iberia Express budget airline at lower rates of pay.

The pilots union Sepla says that the plan contradicts the airline’s collective bargaining agreement.
