Spain's Iberia said on Monday it has appointed current chairman Antonio Vazquez as the new chairman of International Airlines Group (IAG) the new company formed from the merger of Iberia and British Airways.

The UK carrier's chief executive Willie Walsh will be CEO of IAG, Iberia said in a statement.

Last week, Iberia approved BA's funding plan for a multi-billion pound pension deficit, removing the last major obstacle for the merger before year-end.
