Air NZ, Virgin Blue Talk Trans-Tasman Alliance

National carrier Air New Zealand said on Wednesday it had discussed a possible alliance with rival Virgin Blue on services between New Zealand and Australia but nothing had come of it.

"The airlines have been in ongoing discussions for several months but no agreement has been reached," the airline said in a statement.

Shares in Air NZ, around 77 percent owned by the New Zealand government, last traded 1.5 percent lower at NZD$1.35, while Virgin Blue shares were 0.9 percent lower at AUD$0.575.
