Brazilian carrier TAM is to buy four Boeing widebody 777-300 Extended Range passenger jets, with a list price of about $1 billion overall, the chief executive of Brazil's biggest airline said on Tuesday.

The airline also has options to buy four more 777-300s, TAM's CEO, Marco Antonio Bologna, said.

The order marks Boeing's first sale to TAM, which operates an Airbus-dominated fleet.

TAM will also be the first Latin American carrier to operate the twin engine 777-300ER.

As part of the deal, Boeing also agreed to lease to TAM three Boeing MD-11s on a short-term basis until the four 777-300ERs are delivered in 2008. The MD-11s will be delivered to TAM over the next six months, Boeing said.
