Alaska Air Orders 50 Boeing 737s

Alaska Airlines on Thursday announced an order for 50 Boeing 737s, worth USD$5 billion at list prices.

The order is for 20 737 MAX 8s, 17 737 MAX 9s and 13 Next-Generation 737-900ERs. The order is Alaska Airlines' largest ever.

The 737 MAX is a new engine variant of the popular 737 that offers better fuel efficiency.

Alaska Air currently operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet of 120 aircraft.

Boeing reported an increase in orders last quarter, helped by orders for the new 737 MAX.

Earlier this month, Boeing reported an increase in orders for its third quarter, helped by the new 737 MAX.

It said it had received orders for 821 aircraft in the 737 MAX category by October 3.Alaska Air Group, parent company of Alaska Airlines, will order 50 Boeing 737s, worth USD$5 billion at list prices.

The order is expected to include Boeing's current 737 aircraft and the updated 737 MAX-8 and MAX-9 jets, the daily said.
