GIP Names Edinburgh Airport Chairman

The former head of the Civil Service in Scotland is to be the new chair of the UK's Edinburgh Airport.

Sir John Elvidge will take up the post when the airport's takeover is completed next month.

Sir John who was permanent secretary to the devolved Scottish Executive until 2010 has been named by new owners Global Infrastructure Partners, which won control of the airport last month won with an GBP£807 million (USD$1.3 billion) bid.

He will take up his new role on June 1, subject to approval from the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, which advises on appointments taken up by former civil servants within two years of them leaving their post.
