Air Berlin Passenger Numbers Down 5.6 Percent

Air Berlin saw the number of passengers it carried in March fall 5.6 percent from a year earlier as demand fell at a faster rate than it managed to cut capacity.

The German carrier said on Tuesday that it had cut the number of seats on offer by 0.8 percent in March. The number of passengers totaled 2.05 million.

The load factor narrowed by 3.7 percentage points to 74.1 percent. Fare yields rose 4.2 percent from a year earlier, meaning the company improved its profitability per seat sold.
