Virgin Blue, Australia's second-biggest airline, announced on Tuesday a further 8 percent cut in its domestic capacity.

Virgin said the reduction in number of planes in operation on domestic routes was in response to continued deterioration in demand for flights.

Virgin also said it was exploring options to minimize job losses, including transferring staff from Virgin Blue to the new international long haul airline V Australia.
