Singapore Air Takes Delivery Of Fifth A380

Singapore Airlines, the world's most valuable airline by stock market value, received its fifth Airbus A380 superjumbo.

The A380, the world's biggest passenger plane, arrived in Singapore on June 29, and will fly the carrier's Singapore-London route except for the first week in August, when it will fly to Beijing to meet higher passenger traffic during the Olympics, Singapore Airlines said in a statement.

The delivery of the superjumbo comes after Airbus announced in May another delay in deliveries.

The planemaker has struggled to boost production as quickly as it hoped, risking further penalty payments to airlines.

Airbus is trying to recover from two years of production delays caused by problems in installing wiring on the mammoth doubledecker planes.

Singapore Airlines has firm orders for another 14 A380s and options to buy six more.
