SAS Says Swedish Prosecutor Closes Dash 8 Probe

Scandinavian airline SAS said on Thursday it was no longer being investigated for criminal wrongdoing in connection with two crash landings of Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft in September last year.

The airline, half-owned by Sweden, Norway and Denmark, said in a statement it welcomed the decision by a Swedish public prosecutor, which related to crash landings in Lithuania and Denmark.

The statement did not make any reference to a third crash landing that occurred in Copenhagen, weeks after the first two.

SAS decided last October to scrap its fleet of Dash 8 Q400 planes after the third crash landing and reached a compensation deal this year with the plane's maker.

SAS's chief executive said in the statement the airline was found to be not at fault because the incidents had occurred due to a problem in the planes that it could not have been expected to find.

No-one was hurt in any of the crash landings.
