Lufthansa Cargo To Cut Fuel Surcharges

Lufthansa's cargo division said on Monday it planned to cut its fuel surcharges for customers after oil prices eased.

Lufthansa Cargo plans to cut the charges to 0.55 euros per kilogram from 0.60 euros from November 21. The company had raised the surcharges five times since its last previous cut to 0.30 euros last December.

"The company is thus reacting to the falling kerosene prices in the last two weeks," Lufthansa Cargo said in a statement. The cost of US light crude oil has fallen below USD$60 a barrel after soaring to a record of USD$70.85 in late August.

Lufthansa Cargo automatically alters its surcharges as oil prices vary.

Parent Deutsche Lufthansa said it currently had no plans to cut the surcharges it imposes on customers of its main passenger airline business.

"The surcharges in the passenger business remain unchanged for the moment," a Lufthansa spokeswoman said on Monday.

Lufthansa has raised fuel surcharges for passengers four times since August 2004, most recently increasing them in September to 52 euros one-way on long-haul flights and 12 euros one-way for domestic and European services.
