Six America West Airlines executives and one from US Airways have been named to top positions with the new carrier that results from their planned merger, the airlines' officers said on Monday.
Douglas Parker, the America West chief executive who will lead the new airline as chairman and CEO, and Bruce Lakefield, the chief executive of bankrupt US Airways who will be vice chairman of the merged entity, outlined their management team in a letter to employees.
America West shareholders will hold 38 percent of the new company while US Airways creditors will own a 12 percent stake. Private investors will control 49 percent of the new airline.
Parker and Lakefield will recommend to the new airline's board that Al Crellin, currently US Airways executive vice president of operations, hold the same position with the new carrier, which will fly under the US Airways flag.
Crellin would be responsible for safety, flight operations, maintenance, airports and inflight services.
Scott Kirby, America West's vice president for sales and marketing would hold the same job with the new company.
Jeff McClelland, currently America West's chief operating officer, would become executive vice president and chief administrative officer. Under the proposal, America West's chief financial officer Derek Kerr and general counsel Jim Walsh would retain their jobs and report to McClelland.
C.A. Howlett, America West's senior vice president for public affairs and Elise Eberwein, America West's vice president for corporate communications, would hold similar jobs with the new company.
