Ankara has lifted a ban on extra German planes coming to Turkey to pick up passengers stranded there after Turkish budget airline Onur Air was barred from landing in Germany, Berlin's Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
The Netherlands and Germany on Thursday temporarily withdrew landing rights from the Turkish airline Onur Air due to safety concerns, leaving many German tourists stranded in Turkey.
Then earlier on Friday German tour operator All Tours said an Air Berlin plane had not been allowed to land in Turkey, and further flights planned by German airlines over the weekend had been denied landing permission.
Germany's Transport Ministry said Berlin had intervened to ensure thousands of German tourists in Turkey could return home.
"The flight ban has been lifted," a German Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Onur Air, a low-fare challenger to Turkish Airlines, has been flying since 1992. It said German and Dutch authorities had acted out of political and economic motives.
Some 2,000 German tourists are affected, the airline said.
