State-owned Polish airline LOT had a net profit of 3 million zlotys (USD$960,000) in 2004 compared to a loss of 109 million zlotys a year earlier, the company said on Wednesday.
"We managed to achieve a profit, thanks mainly to a sensible policy of hedging for fuel purchases, and to currency movements -- the weak dollar helps us," said LOT spokesman Leszek Chorzewski. He said he did not have other financial figures available.
Since Poland entered the European Union in May 2004, its zloty currency has gained 28 percent against the dollar and 17 percent against a globally strong euro.
The Polish government is still seeking a buyer for a 25 percent stake in LOT, a member of the Lufthansa-led Star Alliance network of airlines, after its previous partner, Swissair, went bust in 2001.
