TransAsia Ends Flight Operations

November 22, 2016

Taiwan's TransAsia Airways has shut down its flight operations after attempts to recover from two aircraft crashes failed.

A July 2014 crash at Magong Airport, and a 2015 crash just after takeoff from Taipei contributed to a deteriorating financial situation with all rescue attempts unsuccessful. The company said it was not able to produce an effective turnaround plan.

About 100,000 passengers are affected by the collapse.

TransAsia said full refunds will be offered from a newly established trust fund and customer service staff will be available until mid-December to help with refunds and rebookings.

TransAsia has just over 1700 staff and operated 27 routes in Taiwan and Asia.
