Norwegian Launches More Flights from the US

September 7, 2016

Low cost carrier Norwegian Air is increasing its profile in the US and will launch flights from four US cities to Barcelona from next summer.

The flights, from Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Newark and Oakland will launch in June 2017.

“Continued US expansion is key to Norwegian’s global strategy… We now offer a greater amount of nonstop routes from the US to Europe than any other European airline (and) we look forward to continue adding additional routes and frequencies,” Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian’s chief commercial officer said.

Los Angeles will have twice-weekly flights to Barcelona from June 5, increasing to three flights from the end of August.

There will be two Newark flights from June 6, then four times weekly from end August. Norwegian already operates flights from New York JFK to European destinations.

Oakland will have two Barcelona flights from June 7, rising to three.

Flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood to Barcelona will launch on August 22 and operate twice weekly.

Norwegian will operate the flights with Boeing 787 Dreamliners in Premium Economy and Economy class layout.

Norwegian's Irish subsidiary, Norwegian Air International, applied for permission to operate flights to the United States from Ireland more than two years ago, but the request has languished amid opposition from unions and some US airlines.
