Lufthansa Technik, MTU Exploring Maintenance JV

September 20, 2016

Lufthansa Technik and MTU Aero Engines are examining a possible joint venture to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the PW1000G family of geared turbofan engines.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a JV, with a decision to be made by the end of the year.

Lufthansa was the first airline to put a Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan engine into commercial service on the Airbus A320neo.

Geared turbofan engines have been selected for new aircraft launched by five aircraft manufacturers. Around 8,200 of the engines have been ordered so far.
