April 12, 2017

JetBlue Airways reported improved March and first quarter passenger traffic figures on Wednesday.

JetBlue carried 3.49 million passengers in March, a 5.3 percent increase on the same month of 2016. For the first quarter, passenger numbers were up 6.5 percent to 9.7 million.

Passenger traffic in revenue passenger miles (RPM) was up 2.9 percent for the month and 3.9 percent for the quarter to end March. Available seat miles (ASM) capacity increased by 4.2 percent in both periods.

Load factor dipped by 1.1 percentage points to 85.7 percent in March and by 0.3 percentage points to 83.9 percent for the quarter.

JetBlue said revenue per available seat mile (RASM) increased by about 0.5 percent in March, excluding the expected seven point impact from the timing of Easter. First quarter RASM is now expected to decline by approximately 4.8 percent, the New York-based carrier said.

JetBlue also announced new service between Orlando International and Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint Louverture Airport in December, subject to regulatory approval. Orlando will become the fourth US city that JetBlue offers service to Port-au-Prince from.
