Fighters Escort Air Canada Flight Into Vancouver

Canadian military fighter jets escorted an Air Canada Boeing 767 passenger jet into Vancouver on Tuesday after an unspecified threat was made against the aircraft, officials said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the incident was determined to be a false alarm, and "there was no real threat to the passengers at any time during the flight."

Canadian Forces CF18 jets followed Air Canada Flight 109 as it made its final approach into Vancouver International Airport on a flight from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Toronto, defense and airline officials said.

"The emergency landing took place as a result of an unspecified threat," police said in a statement. No passengers were detained.

A provincial safety official said the threat to the aircraft was received via email, but police and government officials refused to confirm that.
